The 10 Creepiest TV Title Sequences

More often than not, the opening titles of any given TV show are just as memorable as the show they are opening for. In the case of the TV shows listed below, their creepy title sequences keep playing in our heads, just like these unforgettable TV theme songs. The only difference is, we tend to remember them with that all-too familiar chill running down the back of our neck.

10. Dead Like Me

This one’s actually hilarious, but the idea that death is literally all around us--no, scratch that—one of us, and could creep up on us at any given moment, can be a bit unsettling.

9. Twin Peaks

The ominous bass line of its haunting theme coupled with idyllic images of a quiet little town pretty much sums up what this show is all about, that even the seemingly most innocent of places could hide some deep, dark secrets underneath.

8. Lost

Short, simple, and undoubtedly as eerie as any 10-second opening sequence comprising nothing more than big bold letters coming at you could get.

7. Millennium

That silhouette of a woman hunching over in apparent defeat at the beginning is disturbing as hell.

6. Carnivale

Tarot cards have always been the stuff of creepiness for many, and this sequence further amps the creep factor by mixing them with black-and-white historical footages.

5. Nip/Tuck

Waking up while in surgery is the stuff of nightmares, and the CGI human with the twitching right hand looks like it’s going to do just that.

4. The Twilight Zone

This is the oldest TV opening sequence in the list, but the passing decades have not diminished its creepiness one bit.

3. The X-Files

The theme alone is enough to send chills down anybody’s spine.

2. Six Feet Under

It’s but natural for a show dealing with death to have a title sequence that shows, well, death, but the opening just captures the essence of dying (i.e. the hands that get pulled away, the wilting flowers) so uncannily that it’s downright creepy. And then there’s the deceptively cheerful-sounding theme that makes it all the more disturbing.

1. Dexter

This opening sequence, probably the most brilliantly executed ever, changed the way I looked at breakfast forever.
