50 TV Theme Songs I’ll Never Forget

TV shows come and go (well, maybe with the exception of COPS and The Simpsons), but television theme songs will always stay with us, be it nostalgic or just plain annoying. On more than one occasion, I’ve caught myself humming most of the TV show theme songs listed below, the way I hum popular movie themes.

Six Feet Under Theme Song MP3, Lyrics and Videos

Okay, Six Feet Under was an unprecedented success, but while the show itself was a scathingly brilliant story stern to stern, part of the charisma comes from the equally masterful soundtrack. Thomas Newman’s now-familiar music from Six Feet Under set the mood for the entire series perfectly, since nothing says noir more than a series about death.

Mission Impossible Theme Song MP3, Lyrics and Videos

Like a bad haircut during 3rd grade – or an equally bad career move, as was the case with Timothy Dalton, one of the previous incarnations of James Bond – the Mission Impossible theme carries on from one century to another, generating the hype and excitement that, for good or ill, the original series had going for it. This isn’t to say that all the recent movies were bad; but anybody’d admit that the music from Mission impossible had a lot to do with the franchise’s attitude. Even a band like Limp Bizkit couldn’t ruin it.

The classic Batman series had a rather rustic (ancient) charm that none of the newer movies could – or would – emulate. From the skin-tight stockings that Adam West wore as the caped crusader, to the gigantic and unwieldy Bat Computer. The original music from Batman carried with it part of the charm that made the show one of the most memorable classics of the 1960s.

Friends Theme Song MP3, Lyrics and Videos

There’s hardly anybody in my age group (give or take a few generations older or younger) who doesn’t know what Friends is. As a matter of fact, given how long-lived the series was, I’m surprised they didn’t come up with with a movie to wrap everything up. The Transformers were an icon of the 80’s just as much as Hiroshima was a WWII monument of the 40’s. Every kid on the block knew who Optimus Prime and Megatron were, and could easily mimic the transformation sequences’ sound effects. But recall of the music from The Transformers was such that although various incarnations of the theme were created throughout the years, the very essence of the original still shone through like the eternal voice of Optimus Prime himself.

”Dr. Who?” “Dr. Who!” The story of this long-lived Time Lord has delighted and mystified viewers since 1963, and while the main character only seems to be getting younger while he’s getting older – how’s that for a paradox? – the theme song hardly changes much in arrangement.
