7 Biggest Mistakes You Can Make On A First Date

So you’ve finally asked her out on a date, without having to resort to some of the worst pickup lines in the world. And of all the women you’ve asked out in the last few months, this is one you’d like to keep, or at least go beyond a first date with. No problem, you say, ‘cause you probably consider yourself an expert with the ladies, so you know what to do. But do you have any idea what NOT to do? Most men don’t, and more often than not, commit these very same mistakes without even knowing it, effectively dooming any chances of getting a second date.

1. Dressing Down

You’d be the dumbest guy on Earth if you finally score a date with this hot chick and you show up in cargo pants and a T-shirt that says "They call it "PMS" because "Mad Cow Disease" was already taken" or something to that effect. It is a fact that dressing up nicely is a way of showing respect for other people, and that is certainly the kind of impression you want to give a girl on a first date, right? Now you don’t have to rent a tux. Wearing a neat shirt, nice pants and decent shoes will do. And oh, showering, clipping your nails, brushing your teeth and shaving will also help. Girls have this thing for personal hygiene you know.

2. Taking her to a fast food joint

You gotta be kidding. McDonald’s, for a first date? Might as well take her to the nearest hotdog stand and stuff a footlong hotdog down her throat.

Now you don’t really have to make reservations for the swankiest and most expensive restaurant in the state just for this one date, because she’ll think you’re just showing off, taking her to a place which is obviously beyond your price range. Just a nice, cozy restaurant that serves good food where you can talk and have dinner without having to spend your life savings will do just fine.

3. Staring at the big-breasted blonde at the next table

You’re a guy, and it’s but natural for guys to stare at anything attractive that presents itself right in front of your eyes, but can you just keep a lid on it, even for just this one night, so you can give your date a hundred percent of your attention? One little tip: sit facing away from the crowd.

4. Keeping your cell phone on

Women are not particularly impressed when their date answers every single call on his cell phone while in the middle of an otherwise interesting conversation, and even less so when the guy picks up his phone while she’s in mid-sentence. If you can’t turn your cell phone off on a first date, you can kiss your chances for a second date goodbye.

5. Being too honest

I walked in on my ex-girlfriend having sex with two men at the same time, so I tried to hang myself, but I lived, and I’ve been on Prozac ever since.” Sheesh, man. Being honest is cool, being a little too honest is not. Airing your darkest little secrets on a first date will definitely send your date running, not towards you, but away from you. Stick to these safe conversation topics, and you'll be fine.

6. Getting Drunk

The nicest of people turn into the most horrible of monsters when they’re drunk. It’s best to know your alcohol intake limit and try to keep the number of drinks below that during a first date, for you don’t really want your date to see your own personal Mr. Hyde, do you?

7. Assuming you'll get laid after the date

Hoping for some nookie on a first date is probably what all men have in common, and is perfectly fine, but EXPECTING it just because you paid for dinner is an entirely different story altogether. If you think that doing so entitles you to sex, you can just pick up some hooker off the street and spare yourself the trouble of trying to impress a woman on a first date.
